The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has said that Nigerian Military is winning the war against terrorism in the Northern part of the country.
Air Marshal Abubakar stated this yesterday, while commissioning a one-by-30 unit building at the 115 Special Operations Group (SOG), in Port Harcourt.
He further said that the military had demonstrated commitment in safeguarding the nation’s territory, adding that the military was determined to ensuring that terrorism was tackled soonest.
“Certainly, we are winning the war against terrorism in the North East. If you look at where we are coming from in 2014, when convoys of 15 -20 Hilux vehicles were moving, ravaging and killing villagers. That is not the situation on ground now.
” Yes, we having suicide bombings. We are doing everything humanly possible to contain all these insurgences. It will linger for some time, until we are able to deal with the whole issues.
“Remember, it is not only insurgency; there are other issues, when companies are put together, which we are creating the enabling environment for them to start working now. I believe it will be a thing of the past”, Abubakar expressed.
The NAF Chief debunked the allegation that military had recorded collateral damages in fighting terrorism, saying that soldiers fighting the war should be encouraged for their selfless service to the nation.
He declared: ” What we have are highly committed Nigerians out there, working day and night to make sure Nigeria is secured; making sure that no territory of Nigeria is under the control of any personality than the government, a legitimate government.
“We need to support those men and women that left their homes and are out there operating under very challenging conditions”.
