Wike Swears In New Works Commissioner, Caretaker Committee Chairmen

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has  sworn-in in a new Commissioner for Works, Harrison Bethel Iheanyichukwu with a charge that the new commissioner  must work hard to deliver on the new Rivers projects.

The governor  also sworn-in  17 New Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen after they were  screened  by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Performing  the  swearing-in  of the New Works Commissioner at the Government House, Port Harcourt  yesterday,  Governor Wike  said that: “I have a covenant with the Rivers people to deliver  quality projects and no commissioner  will drag me back “.

The  governor charged the new works commissioner  to always be on the road supervising projects and reporting  progress of  work at all times.

He said : “The former works commissioner  is intelligent,  but he could not meet up with  the  pace of  work at the Ministry.  Take your work very seriously.  There should  be  no compromise .

“The day you misinform me on the status of  projects,  will be the day you will  be  sacked. The day you begin to use your office  to form rings will be the day you will  lose out”.

In his charge to the caretaker  committee  Chairmen,  Governor  Wike  directed that they should work with  security  agencies  in their respective  councils  to fight insecurity.

He added that they should  ensure  the regular  payment of salaries of workers at all times. He said  under no circumstance should caretaker  Chairmen deduct their security  votes before paying  salaries.

He further directed the caretaker council  Chairmen to ensure the improve Sanitation in their respective  areas. He particularly  charged the Chairmen  of Port Harcourt,  Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Eleme, and Ikwerre Local  Government Areas  to improve  on environmental Sanitation.
