Trouble is not over for the breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Alhaji Abubakar Baraje as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) has marked its secretariat for demolition.
FCDA explained that secretariat, which is located at number 4, Oyi River Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, according to FCDA is a residential area and as such should not be used for office purposes.
It would not be the first time that the FCDA has moved against the Baraje-led faction as the administration recently shut down the Adamawa State Lodge also in Abuja, where the faction has been operating from, insisting that the owners of the property had contravened the rules guarding its use.
The Public Relations Officer of Development Control, Kalu Emetu, told our correspondent that the marking on the building was for the Baraje-led PDP to revert the building to its original purpose, which is residential or face demolition
The Director of Development Control, Alhaji Yahaya Yusuf, also said that the building would be demolished for violation of land use, adding that it was meant strictly for residential purposes and that converting it to a party secretariat has violated the Abuja master plan.
Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, Yusuf revealed that there were about 202 of such buildings in the capital city and that all the affected buildings would be pulled down.
Reacting to the planned demolition, however, the Baraje faction said it would institute a legal action against the FCT authorities if it dared to demolish the building.
Speaking with our correspondent, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, challenged the FCT on the planned demolition, saying:
“Let them go ahead and demolish the building. We can assure them that we are going to rebuild the building with money from the federal government of Nigeria.
“We will sue them for willful destruction and they will be made to know that the building belongs to a Nigerian citizen with constitutional rights to own property in any part of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory.
“The Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed has been mandated by some forces to find a way of destroying President Goodluck Jonathan and he has happily embarked on that mission. That is why he is doing something that is not expected of a normal person.
“He does not have the powers he is arrogating to himself. Bala Mohammed is confused. He is undemocratic. He is being wicked. Such a person is not worthy of the position he presently occupies.”
The spokesman regretted that President Jonathan had failed to understand the altruistic mission of the breakaway faction, adding that otherwise, he would not be treating a political party as if it’s a personal estate.
He recalled the case of the Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, who was suspended from the PDP simply because he did not pick the telephone call of the PDP chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and also the case of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
