Wife of Vice President, Hajia Amina Mohammed Namadi Sambo has called on all stakeholders in the education sector to leave no stone unturned to ensure that all Nigerian children have access to education.
Hajia Namadi Sambo stated that education remains a right of every child irrespective of his or her status, race or belief noting that it is important for all key players in the sector to contribute in whatever way to promote and make education available to children.
Speaking in Abuja at the weekend at the ‘check out for children awareness walk organised by the United Nations Children and Education Fund (UNICEF) and Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, the Vice President’s wife remarked that the present administration is committed to developing the education sector through various programmes and policies aimed at making it available and affordable to every child.
Represented by the Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, Hajia Namadi Sambo urged Nigerians to support all the efforts by contributing their quota individually and collectively ‘so that together we will swim and float to safety’
Speaking earlier, the Country Representative of UNICEF, Ibrahim Ba noted that children are the hope of the world and must be protected against abuse, trafficking and other vices and must also be made available to education.
He added that the awareness walk was a continuation of a long standing tradition between UNICEF and Sheraton Hotel saying that the last year’s campaign generated more than 1.5million dollars which provided support to various UNICEF education projects to thousands of poor children across the world.
High point of the event was a 7 kilometer walk by children, parents and top government officials including the FCT Minister of State from Sheraton Hotel through the National Mosque back to the hotel.
