The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has scheduled Monday November 30th as a day to honour its members and others who were killed before, during and after 2015 general election in Rivers State.
The Party made this declaration yesterday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital through the programme planning committee secretary, Mr. Chris Finebone who is also the APC state Publicity Secretary.
Finebone said the event which will include an interdenominational worship session and solemn procession will bring the party closer to the victim families of 2015 general election.
Speaking on the importance of the event, the committee chairman Barr. Fred Igwe, stated that the event is meant to sustain the spotlight on the gory killings that bedevilled the sham elections in the state.
Igwe said those who were made victims of electoral violence are party members, residents of the state and other Nigerians including policemen who left deep pain and gap in the lives of their family members and those who love them.
“The least we can do for them is to continue to remind Nigerians that the souls of the departed can only find repose when justice is done by bringing those behind their killings to book without further delay.”
He called on the people of Rivers state to participate in the programme and to always pray for the families left behind by the departed victims. He also urged people to pray for the leaders and those who are responsible for dispensing justice to have the political will to stand up for justice at all times.
