Few Months after the management of the Calabar University lifted a ban on one of its Lecturers, Barr. Joseph Odok, the lecturer who is with the institution’s Department of Philosophy ran into troubled waters again, over what the university’s authority termed as alleged incitement of the public against it.
Odok had last year been suspended following series of comments and allegations he leveled against the institution’s management in the social media .
According to a letter signed by the Registrar of the university of Calabar ,Mr. Moses Abang dated January 19,2018 the university authority averred that, Odok’s suspension followed certain social media posts credited to Odok in which he had made certain comments that tend to bring into disrepute the image of the institution’s management which may incite members of the public against it.
This has led the management of the institution to slam an indefinite suspension on him .
It would however, be recalled that Odok , was alleged to have made several allegations against the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Zana Akpagu. He was said to have referred to his boss in one of the posts, as ”a greedy fellow” .
According to the suspension letter, some of Barrister Odok’s post has allegedly claimed that the university’s Faculty of Law, has lost it accreditation, and that the VC has deceived candidates to apply for the course, while he (Vice Chancellor ) was busy running helter-skelter to bribe JAMB officials to approve the course for the university.
In other times, he was said to have accused the VC, of sacking people who are opposed to his style of administration and that he usually engage the services of people, without following due process.
However, while the management of the University denied every allegations leveled against authority of the school, it urged members of the public to shun Odok’s claims against his employers.
The suspension letter reads, “The university regret that its quite disheartening, unthinking and unbelievable ” for an officer of Barrister Odok’s status to make such wild, unsubstantiated sweeping allegations which were capable of inciting the public against the institution and its leadership”.
The letter added that Barr. Odok will be invited by the senior staff disciplinary committee to defend his “Spurious “allegations against the Vice Chancellor.
