At least two people were yesterday feared killed at Omoku Town in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State as cultists engage in fresh battle for supremacy.
A source in the area who pleaded for anonymity told The post that the two victims are, Mr. Ndu Tom and Ladi Simeon.
The source said that the victims were killed early yesterday in their apartment around Obohia area in Omoku town by the gunmen suspected to be cultists.
A source alleged that speculations had it that the deceased were suspected cultist who have refused to embrace the state amnesty programme.
He further alleged that some suspected repentant cultists may have gone after them after they refused to lay down their arms and embrace the amnesty.
The source said, “Some gunmen invade Omoku again yesterday night. They killed two people and cause panic in the town. For long we have not heard gunshots. We are surprised over this incident.
“They killed Ndu Tom and Ladi Simeon. They broke into their houses and killed them. We don’t know what may have prompted that or the people behind the act.”
A senior police officer in the area who did not want his name to be mentioned also confirmed the incident, said investigation has so far commenced to unravel circumstances surrounding the murder of the two people.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has not spoken on the development as all the calls and text messages made to the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni were not attended to at press time.
