As part of its “Go Africa” strategy, which enables the company to interact with its major distributors in key African countries, Toshiba Gulf FZ plans to donate an amount of $20, 000 towards the promotion of education in Africa.
The General Manager for Toshiba Gulf, Santosh Varghese, who announced this at a news conference in Accra said it is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) moves to “support knowledge” in Africa, and that details on this education support would be revealed soon.
Countries that are expected to benefit from this education package include Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The team from Toshiba is in Ghana for the “Toshiba Channel Connect Event” which has been designed to enable the top management of the Japanese companies to interact with their key distributors in Africa for feedback response, interaction, among others. The team recently held a session with their distributors in Ghana which saw over 75 of their key partners attending.
The ‘Go Africa’ project, is aimed at developing the Toshiba products and widening the company’s market base to enable them connect with customers in Africa so they better assist them improve their products.
The company has announced a technological plan to descend heavily on reprobates who are into selling fake Toshiba products on the African market. To this effect, a road show is being planned to assist customers of the company to identify genuine Toshiba products from the inferior ones.
To start off, Varghese said it is important that patrons of Toshiba products in Africa always do their purchasing from authorized offices to avoid buying fake products. He hinted that the company’s legal team is considering some smart ways of tackling the fake product situation in Africa which agreeably has become a menace.
“We understand that sometimes they pay money which is sometimes higher than the price for the original ones before they realise they’ve bought a fake product. So we’re working with our team to stop this thing, and I think the best way is to engage our customers, to know the real thing on the ground, and to show them the benefits of getting an original product,” he stated.
Toshiba has been a leader of innovation in the Hard Disk Drive business since 1967 and has succeeded in making its products more compact with higher capacities.
