The tenure elongation crisis affecting the local government coordinators of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Rivers State chapter has come to an end following the acceptance of peace by Comrade Ipalibo Maduloye whom the state council described as rebel leader.
The state leadership of the NYCN led by Comrade SukuboSara-Igbe had in assumption of office initiated a system of two years instead of the initial four years tenure for the Local Government Coordinators.
His decision did not go down well with some of the coordinators who decided to oppose the amendment. Though, some of the youth leaders respected the amendment.
But Comrade Ipalibo Maduloye, a Journalist who led the group that opposed the amendment yesterday said after a strong resistance in condemning the amendment he has decided to let- go by obeying the decision of the leadership at the state level.
He noted that he didn’t want history to remember him that he was one of those who truncated the existence of peace at state council in Rivers State.
He called on his faction and those who are loyal to him to give peace a chance, adding that for anyone to enjoy peace in a crisis situation someone must be ready to make a sacrifice.
Comrade Maduloye: “Today we are here as local Government Coordinators of the NYCN and we have decided to comply with the decision of the state leadership by accepting the two years tenure. We decided to comply for the sake of peace and progress of the youths in the state.
“I want to call on other coordinators who are still aggrieved to come together for the sake of peace and development of the state. Thank God that from today the crisis has ended; it is because I have decided to make a sacrifice.”
Responding after the peace meeting, the spokesman for NYCN, Comrade Odokiye Mojiton commended some of the NYCN coordinators for their decision and encouraged those who are aggrieved to have a rethink and embrace peace.
Reacting to delay by the state government to implement the second phase of the amnesty, Mojiton urged the repentant cultist to be patient with the state government as they are going to carry everyone along.
