The leadership tussle in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not about to end soon despite the recent Court of Appeal ruling that Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff remains the authentic National Chairman.
The South West zone of the party, on Monday officially pitched its tent with the faction led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, whose National Caretaker Committee leadership they passed a vote of confidence at a meeting in Ado Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State, just as and Governor Ayodele Fayose, chairman of the party’s Governors’ Forum.
A communiqué at the end of party’s South-West Leaders’ Meeting appreciated “the doggedness of members of the PDP in the South-West in the face of harassment and intimidation and we implore them not to lose hope as there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
The meeting applauded the decision of the Makarfi committee to challenge Senator Alli Modu Sheirff’s claims to the leadership of the party at the Supreme Court, expressing confidence that justice will prevail in the end.
4. The leaders of the PDP in the South-West repose confidence on the leadership of His Excellency, Dr Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State as the leader of the party in the South-West as well as the Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum in Nigeria.
They also passed a confidence vote on “the South-West Zonal executive under the leadership of Dr Eddy Olafeso.
“South-West PDP under the leadership of Governor Ayodele Fayose will continue to pursue the ideal of peace and harmony in the South-West and the entire nation in full consultation with our leaders and members,” the communiqué added.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Olabode George, a leader in the zone.
