Subsidy fraud: Capital oil  boss, Uba arrested
The Special Anti-Fraud Unit(SFU) has placed the Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, Ifeanyi Uba under arrest while also commencing criminal investigations against the management of three other major oil marketers who were involved in the oil subsidy scam last year.
Uba, the flamboyant boss of the now dubiously popular Capital oil, was sighted on the premises of the Milverton Road offices of the Special Fraud Unit around mid- day and he was later later whisked into the Interrogation room of the outfit,where he was grilled for hours by t the unit’s investigators.
Uba’s company was alleged to have received the sum of N43.26 billion illegally and was one of those who fleeced the nation of the heaviest amount, indicted by the Presidential committee on the subsidy scam.
Dressed in a blue French suit, Uba was visibly shaken and uncomfortable in the heavily air-conditioned interrogation room of the outfit.
And he was still being interrogated until about 6.30 pm on Tuesday.
According to the report of the Presidential Audit Unit that checked the books of the company, Capital oil was alleged to have claimed that it has supplied about 538.7 million litres of PMS last year in 26 transactions.
Other members of the company’s management been interrogated by the police unit include, Joseph Orji, the Executive Director(Operations), Afam Azubuike, Executive Director ( Special Duties), Chibuzor Ogbaokiri (General Manager, Operations), Geoffrey Okorie (Deputy Manager) and Nsikam Usoro, the Head, Trading. Uba was later detained at the detention facilities of the SFU .
The top management staff of Heyden Petroleum, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dayo Abiodun and its Head of Finance Department, Adeshina Koiki, were also interrogated by the unit’s investigators while those of Matrix Energy Limited, have been grilled earlier by the police unit.
However, those of the Masters Energy oil and Gas Limited risk the possibility of being declared wanted by the police unit as they have refused to honour the invitation of the police anti-fraud unit.
Heyden Petroleum is being sought for the sum of N4.8 billion, while Matrix Energy Limited has the sum of N23 billion against it.
Masters Energy oil and Gas Limited’s involvement in the subsidy oil scam was said to be about N44.1 billion N44.1 billion and its management staff, which includes Uchechukwu Samson Ogah (President) and Felix Eribo are yet to show up at the unit’s office.
An impeccable source at the unit told National Mirror in confidence that in – depth investigations which has become the hall mark of the anti fraud unit will be speeded up in the four cases and that they shall be arraigned in law courts next week.
“Around here, we don’t toy with cases, we shall concluded investigations this week and they will charged to court next week and you can take that to the bank” he said confidently.
The Public Relations Officer of SFU, Ngozi Isitume confirmed Uba’s arrest and interrogation adding that the oil magnate is still with the unit’s interrogators as at press time.
“I can confirm that we have Chief Ifeanyi Uba, the Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited with us and he is been interrogated at the moment by the team of investigators assigned to the case. We shall update o subsequent development as we go on” she said.
