BoT: Iwuanyanwu claims South-East PDP stakeholders endorsement

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustee (BoT), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, yesterday said that stakeholders of the party from the South-east made up of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha and others have endorsed him for the chairmanship position of the board.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja Iwuanyanwu said “I have however record with special gratitude to the good people of South-east for their unanimous and firm adoption of myself as their sole candidate for the chairmanship of Board of Trustee of PDP. They further resolved that the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and Governor of Abia state, His Excellency Dr. Theodor Orji should on behalf of South-east PDP convey this decision to both the leader of the party, His Excellency, Dr.  Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.”

Disclosing his intention to contest the position, He said that the chairmanship position of the party`s BoT should be reserved for the South- east according to the PDP zoning principle.

Iwuanyanwu noted that Nigeria is a multi ethnic state, adding that if the principle of zoning which according to him was called national character in the constitution was jettisoned that there may be problems.

“In our party we believe in zoning. On November 16, the South-east members of this party met in Enugu and party leaders from the zone were all there. At that meeting they debated and said that by the party`s principle of zoning, the position of the party`s BoT chairman should come to South East,” he said.

He noted that the party`s BoT Secretary was from North, the President from South-south and the National Chairman of the party from the North, while the South-East was yet to have any key position in the party.

Iwuanyanwu  stressed that he was the most qualified person for the party`s BoT chairman having used his resources and laboured for the party in the past.

His words:”I feel I am the best qualified to take up this job, others are qualified too but I think I should be the best choice of the party.

I have spent all my wealth on the party and on the people. Before I joined politics I was a rich man. But In the process of my political career, I became poorer than I was unlike some people who came to politics and became rich.

I have not built any house and I have not bought any. Everything I had I got, I had them before I joined politics. I had two aircrafts but today I have none but am still fighting for the youths and the poor people of this country’’ .

He urged the people of  South East region and Igbos generally to continue speaking with one voice to ensure they got the PDP BoT chairmanship post, stressing that a man with straight records who could call party members to order when necessary was needed for the post and urged the party`s leadership to look for one with such records.
