The Abia state commissioner for agriculture Dr Ken Nwosu who was shot last week by unknown gun while on his way to his country home is dead after medical doctors battled to save his life for the five days he was in the hospital.
Dr Nwosu who was sworn in as a commissioner last September was the former executive director at the National Root Crop Research Institute Umudike, near Umuahia where he retired and was made a commissioner.
It could be recalled that the Commissioner was shot last Wednesday night on his way home after work and was rushed to the Abia State
Specialist and Diagnostic Hospital in Umuahia where the Chief Medical Director, Professor Augustus Mbanaso led a team of doctors to save his life.
Prof Mbanaso after a marathon surgery on the shot commissioner had said that what the Commissioner needed was prayers as the medical team had done what was clinically possible to save him.
But hospital sources confirmed that the Commissioner died on Monday night, adding that he may have died from the injuries he sustained
from the gun shot which were fatal, apart from the intestines that gushed out, the shot also shattered his femur.
At his office at the Ministry of Agriculture staff members were seen in groups discussing in low tones, while no member of his immediate
family could be reached at his home in Amizi Olokoro in Umuahia South council area of the state.
The state government however said that they are sad to lose a member of the state executive council and that he was a round peg in a round
hole, as he was a guru in the field of agriculture.
