Following the dwindling fortune of Nigerian economy as a result of fall in world price of crude oil, the government at all levels have been called upon to tap into culture and tourism as source of revenue.
The Chairman of 2018 Ovia-Osese and Kogi Central Senatorial Aspirant, Mallam Yusuf Haruna made this call while speaking during 2018 Ovia-Osese celebration at civic centre in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State at weekend.
He explained that since the collapse in the world prices of crude oil, Nigeria’s finances have become harder than image, stressing that various domestic challenges have put more pressure on the present mono-economy.
The Senatorial Aspirant therefore noted that it has been more imperative for the government at all levels to look into other sectors like culture and tourism, adding that given it vast cultural and tourist richness, Kogi State is the best position to tap into such endowment.
Ovia-Osese “With its uniqueness if sustained and modernized could be money spinning ventures as it attracts both local and international tourist. Ogori is reputed to be one of few communities where this type of festival aimed at restoring our age long belief in chastity is celebrated”, he said
Haruna also commended the people of Ogori community for their unwavering commitment to keep up their parents who guided the maidens from being swept away by the wave of moral laxity and decadence prevalent in present generation
“Once Again, I urge other communities once across the three Senatorial Districts of the State to emulate Ogori people who have stand their presence in the global map as a result of reformed Ovia-Osese”, the aspirant said.
