The Rivers State Government has fixed the 3rd of December, 2016, as the burial date of the late literary icon, Capt. Elechi Amadi.
The renowned prolific author died on the 29 of June, 2016 at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
The state, after his death had constituted a committee to look into the burial and release a template for the burial.
Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the Chairman of the State Burial Committee, Mr. Frank Achinike Owhor, assured that security and all logistics for the burial have been put in place.
Owhor, who released the template on behalf of the committee, noted that the there would be a weeklong event to mark the burial, adding that the burial rites would commence on the 28th of November to the 4th of December.
He stated that the best of authors all over the globe would grace the burial and invited the members of the public to attend all the activities lined up to honour Amadi.
He further pointed out that after the burial on Saturday that the traditional rites that would usher Amadi into the world of his ancestors would commence the following week.
The committee chairman also thanked the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike on his efforts in ensuring that Amadi was given a befitting national burial.
Owhor said, “The burial activities of Elechi Amadi will last for one week beginning from November 28th to December 4th. The burial proper will be on Saturday, the 3rd of December.
“I can unequivocally tell you that everything needed to make the burial of this man who took the literary world by storm in 1966 a success, ranging from logistics to security have been put in place as we have the full support of the Rivers State Government to prosecute this assignment.”
