National Chairman of the United Peoples Party (UPP), Chief Chekwas Okorie says the only way Nigerians can know the truth about agitation for restructuring of the country is for both the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to merge ahead of the 2019 polls.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, he said both parties have at different times confused Nigerians on which of them was truly committed to the restructuring of the nation.
Okorie, who was also the founding chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), described both parties as two sides of a coin without any genuine idea to lead the nation to the Promised Land.
His words: “One has watched with dismay how both the PDP and APC had capitalised on the call for restructuring to deceive Nigerians. While PDP was in power, they said restructuring was no go area and APC used that as a major weapon to wrestle power in 2015.
“Recently, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubarka now in APC has been championing restructuring of Nigeria to gain attention knowing fully well that his party is anti-restructuring by its stance. You would also have noted that a faction of the PDP is backing the same agenda, so who is deceiving who?
“Restructuring will determine the fate of 2019 election. It is now obvious that all the permutations and ideologies we had exhibited in the past have failed us. So let the APC and the PDP merge and contest against the likes of the UPP that is on the side of the masses yearning for true restructuring.”
Okorie counselled the electorate to be wary of the antics of both parties stressing that “both the APC and the PDP are bed of a feather. That is why chieftains of both parties keep carpet crossing to each other just to fulfil their selfish dreams.
“In 2019, Nigerians should not take them serious again because they have nothing to offer. 16 years PDP held us in hostage and in less than four years in power, Nigerians can see for themselves the score card of the APC. So therefore UPP is the party to follow. We shall demonstrate that when we take over Anambra State during the next governorship election,” he boasted.
