The House of Representatives has directed all its committees to within a period of sixty days make available to it a detailed report of all on-going projects been executed by the various government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), so as to enable it preparation for the presentation of the 2013 budget, expected from the Executive arm.
The House arrived at this decision, following a motion its Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor (PDP-Delta).
The deputy leader in motion, which was seconded by Hon. Toby Okechukwu, said that the National Assembly had since 1999, appropriated trillions of naira to these MDA’s for capital projects, yet the country was still suffering the pains of poor infrastructures.
This means that the funds have not been judiciously utilized for the purpose for which they were appropriated by the assembly, he maintained.
Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Ahmed Datti, advised the leadership of the House to interface with the Executive before the 2013 budget is presented to the assembly.
Other members of the House also spoke in favour of the motion, before its committees were given the directive.
Similarly, the House also resolved to call on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to make available to it the report of Alhaji Bunu Sherrif’s committee on abandoned projects within two weeks.
