Recession: FCTA Targets 10,000 Jobs Creation, Partners Sarduana Foundation

Minister of the  First Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration in continuing to improve the living standards of the residents of the Territory by creating jobs and providing the desired enabling environment.

The Minister stated this at the the weekend during the closing ceremony of the Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Programme organized by the FCT Administration in conjunction with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, at the FCT Youth Development Center, Nyanya – Abuja.

“As an Administration, our target is to create 10,000 jobs by the year 2020. In creating these jobs, we will support our people to generate wealth; thereby reducing the high rate of unemployment and minimizing the level of poverty in the Territory. This stand is also in line with one of the cardinal policies of the Government of our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, that is Job creation and Poverty reduction”. He said

Speaking through  the Managing Director of the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA), Tukur Arabi, Malam Bello who noted that in view of the present national economic realities, the importance of the program cannot be overemphasized, as it will create the next generation of business leaders; stressed that this can only be achieved by empowering the citizens with relevant vocational skills, which will ensure the path to gaining technical know how to operate their businesses and entrepreneurial skills.

His words: “This training programme focuses on providing the youths of the FCT with skills that would enable them succeed in whatever business venture they intend to start.

During the course of this training, I am aware that your Facilitators have trained you, the participants on vocational skills such as Animal Husbandry, Poultry, Paint making etc, in addition to entrepreneurial skills such as Business Management, Financial Management and other critical areas”.

 The special intervention programme we are witnessing today was designed to develop the capacities of women and youth on entrepreneurship and production skills in various trades to create jobs and promote self-reliance by encouraging the starting of productive and sustainable micro, as well as small scale enterprises with capacity for expansion”.

Malam Bello while eulogizing the life of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and the first Premier of Northern Nigeria whose legacies in touching the lives of his people still stand strong decades after his sad demise, appreciated the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation for making this training possible and showing great interest in developing the youths of the FCT.

“The late Premier was a man of great vision and action. He worked tirelessly to uplift the living standards of people without barriers. What we are celebrating today is one of the legacies left by Sir Ahmadu Bello”, he stressed.

The Minister said that the training given by the facilitators whose in-depth knowledge in the various fields of Entrepreneurships development have been imparted into the participants in the last two weeks will go a long way in making the beneficiaries to be productive in their respective trades.

“As the training comes to an end, we hope to see participants create new enterprises, jobs and generate wealth”, the Minister added.

Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Dr. Shettima Aji – Ali, said the Foundation was established in 2009 by friends, relations, associates and well-wishers of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the late Premier of the defunct Northern Region and Sardauna of Sokoto in collaboration with governments of the 19 northern states of Nigeria to promote the exemplary ideals and legacy of the late sage.

Dr. Aji – Ali on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Advisory Council and the Management of the Foundation, thanked the Honourable Minster and the FCT Administration for being one of the great supporters of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation and the smooth take off and success of this training.

Also speaking at the event, the FCT Women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs. Hailmary Aipoh commended the FCT Minister for ensuring that members of the party in the FCT especially women were among the 110 participants who benefited from the training program.
