Professor Adewole Commends Gov.Bello ,Stress the Need to Invest on Education, Health of the People

The Minister for Health, Professor Isacc Adewole has stressed the need for all tiers of government to invest heavily in the people in the areas of Education and health.
The Minister who disclosed this while speaking at the official flag of the Kogi State Healthcare Plus in commemoration of two years anniversary of Governor Yahaya Bello in office at Lokoja Township Stadium, Lokoja, the State capital.
Professor Adewole commended the efforts of Governor Bello led administration in past two years, stressed that government has done excellently well in the health sector.
“Your Excellency, when the invitation came, all I wanted to do was to come say ‘Thank you,’ without knowing what you have done for the state. What caught my attention was the readiness you have provided for the measles and yellow fever campaign. There are some state governors that has not released allocated monies. You not only approved but you also released it,” he stated.
He said that investing in our people is very good, adding that there is no other way” we can connect with our people but by investing in their education and health”.
“The President of the World Bank has mentioned that the World Bank has made mistakes over the years by talking about restructuring over and over again. Now we recognise we must invest in our people. I want to thank you for touching the lives of Kogi people and moving the state in the right direction. You are rehabilitating the healthcare infrastructure, investing in human resources and joining in medical outreach programmes.
“At the Federal Government level, we have done about 8000 free surgeries last year alone and so you’ve made our job easier because health is on the concurrent list.
He added that when the governors and government investment in health, it makes the job at the federal level easier.
“When there is an outbreak in Lokoja and they’re calling on the federal ministry of health, something is wrong. We will partner with the Commissioner for Health. Whatever we will do we will do. We gave Kogi 1.5 million dollars last year; in a couple of days, we will give another 1.6 million U.S. dollars.
“It is an investment that can earn more money once we key into certain areas e.g immunisation, measles Lassa, malaria. We will get more money. So, we are paying you for doing well.
“These are common causes of women who go into labour. We have one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the world because the facilities are not functioning, but once human resources it will reduce mortality. This is made possible according to the commissioner with the 239 public health care per ward”, he said
The Minister pointed out that federal government targeted 10,000 on the basis of 1 per ward. So, you have done excellently there.
