The residents of Ada-George, in Rumueme community, Obio/Akpor Local Government of Rivers State have called on the Commissioner of Police Joseph Mpu, to improve surveillance in their community over night robbery and rape.

The residents made this call yesterday in Port Harcourt after a three-man gang of armed robbers broke into No1, 7th avenue, Ada-George Road, where they carted away valuables and raped the ladies amongst them.

The chairman of the area’s landlord’s association, Mr. Jona  Olumati, told The post that with the current state of insecurity  in  Ada-George  most of residents were no longer sleeping at the night.

He said yesterday’s robbery was one of many such incidents in the community repeated complaints to the police.

“My major concern is the issue of rape, there is no compound where they will rob without raping the ladies.  We have written several letter to the police especially to Ada-George Police Station,” he said.

He said further, “We are calling on the Commissioner of Police to mount surveillance in the area at night, the police can do it, robbers are not stronger than the police.

“We are also thinking to get vigilante group in the area, but one of the challenges of vigilante is that of mix-up.  We don’t want to involve criminals as members of vigilante considering what is happening to communities with vigilante group, he added.
