Political Killings: Family Demands Thorough Investigate

From Paul Obiajunwo, Port Harcourt

One of the relatives of the late Adube’s family in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local government of Rivers State, Mr. Henry Adube, has called on the National Hunan Right Commission (NHRC), Civil Liberty Organization (CLO) and other human right groups to investigate the gruesome murder of his family.

It would be recalled that nine persons were reportedly murdered in Obrikon Community in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local government area and Adube’s family had the highest number of victims including a family friend and driver.

Those murdered in Adube’s family included, late Hon. Christopher Adube, former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local government; his two sons Lucky and John Adube; his daughter Joy; a family friend, Mr. Iyk Ogarabe and the family driver Mr. Samuel Chukwunonye.

Henry, the brother to the decease said in spite of police investigation over the matter he wants the National Hunan Right Commission, Civil Liberty Organization and other human right group to investigate the death of his brother family.

He said he requested their assistance because he wants justice to be done on the matter, adding that the death of his brother’s family must stop further political motivated killing in the area.

He also revealed that those who killed his brother and family actually came to warp his family, saying that the gunmen didn’t show any mercy in their operation.

He said: “That fateful evening they stormed the compound and force their way in and started shooting. If you look at what happened  you will see that the armed men were desperate to end my brother’s family. After killing my brother they went and shot joy and john including a family friend and driver.

“Many people had been killed during the campaign/ rally in the area and the worst thing is that nobody have been arrested or prosecuted. I am begging Nigerians, National Hunan Right Commission, Civil Liberty Organization and other human right groups to investigate this gruesome murder.”

However, the Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local government area, Hon Ejechi Felix said the remains of the victims would not be buried until police finish their investigation.

He said the essence of the killing was to put fear in the minds of the APC supporters in the area from coming out to cast their votes on Saturday election in the state.

He called on the APC supporters in the area not to be deterred by the unfortunate event but to come out en mass to vote for Dakuku Peterside and all APC candidates aspiring for Rivers State House of Assembly.
