Police defuse bombs in Kaduna

A bloody Democracy Day was averted in Kaduna on Tuesday following the discovery and successful defusing of two bombs on Katsina Road area of Kaduna, the Kaduna State capital.
The first bomb was discovered on Tuesday morning in a polythene bag at the old terminus of Kaduna State Transport Augency on Katsina Road while the second was found in a bag at Katsina Roundabout earlier in the day.
Traders at the old terminus discovered the suspicious bag and informed the police. The police bomb squad moved in quickly and defused the bomb.
The second bomb, which was concealed in a television set and planted at Katsina Roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way, was discovered at 6a.m.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jinjiri Abubakar, told journalists that the bomb was planted around 4a.m by unknown persons.
“An IED concealed in a television set was found this morning after it was planted around 4a.m. and based on intelligence report we got to know of it.
“Our men arrived there around 6a.m. and they successfully detonated it and there was no casualty recorded,” Abubakar said.
The commssioner said that residents of the area got to know about it after the police had cordoned off the area and the noise that followed the detonation attracted some residents.
