The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, said it has uncovered the mystery behind the killing of 60 years old legal luminary, Mr. Charles Ajayi (SAN), who was slaughtered last Thursday inside the Redemption Camp along Lagos – Ibadan Expressway.
It said the slain Ajayi whose remains were shattered, was killed by his biological son, Master Tolani Ajayi(21), a 300 level student of Department of History and International Relations of Redeemer University( RUN) Ogun State.
It was gathered that Tolani in a fit of anger following disagreement with his father during a prayer session, had dashed into the kitchen, removed a knife and stabbed his father repeatedly before using a machete to slit his throat to hasten the dying process.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the corpse of the man was
sighted and “recovered in a nearby bush at Canaan Land Street within the RCCG Camp, in a box, after he had been hacked to death by his son.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP), added that Tolani was arrested at the scene in his father’s residence the same day he carried out the killing about 5:30pm after the discovery of the corpse and Police preliminary investigation.
Adejobi said: “the Divisional Police Officer Redemption Camp, Mr. Olaiya Martins, had led a team of detectives and some members of the community who noticed the strange attitude of the suspect while dropping a box to the point where the body of the SAN was dumped and thereafter, traced the ground marks of the dragged – box from where the suspect dumped the dad’s corpse to the house of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, where they met the suspect in a relaxed mood in the house.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect earlier lied that his dad had gone on evangelism before he eventually confessed to the crime when he was taken to the Redemption Camp Divisional Headquarters. He stated further that the problem arose when his late father confronted him for not responding to all the prayer points he(the deceased) was calling and the late father slapped him.
“He said he went mad and went straight to the kitchen to pick up a knife to stab him and later a cutlass to cut his throat and killed him. The exhibits including the knife and cutlass he used in killing his father had been recovered by the Police and the corpse of the SAN had been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.”
According the Police Image maker, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye has dispatched detectives to assess the situation and take over the matter for further investigation while parents are advised to raise their children with right cultural and moral values.
He noted that Okoye who said it was “incredible to hear and see such a situation where a son will kill his father in a prayer session,” sympathised with the family of the slain SAN, particularly his wife, herself also a legal practitioner, and children to take solace in the Lord.
He assured members of the community in RCCG, that such incident will not occur again as the command would improve on the synergy between the Police and the Internal Security Operatives of the RCCG.
