Pension scam probe: Arrest Maina now, NANS tells EFCC

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Thursday said it has given the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a seven-day ultimatum to arrest and prosesecute the Chairman of the Pension Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina.

The students’ body also said it has declared Maina persona non-grata  grata 100km near any Nigeria tertiary institution noting that it it has mandated all Nigerian students to enforce the declaration.

In  a statement issued in Abuja yesterday by the President of the association Comrade Dauda Mohammed, NANS dessociated itself from a purpoted rally in Abuja yesterday by some people alleged to be its members in support of Maina.

It noted that it has watched in the last couple of months moves by Maina to railroad NANS into supporting him in the face of his impending prosecution for his monumental fraud and criminal activities as the Chairman of the Pension Task Force.

The statement reads in part: ”  We saw the latest move by Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina as one of such several steps that has been taken by him over the last couple of months to railroad the NANS into supporting him in the face of the his impending prosecution for his monumental fraud and criminal activities as the Chairman of the Pension Task Force.

We want to state it categorically clear here that the NANS is absolutely in support of the steps taken so far by the National assembly particularly the Nigerian Senate with the determination of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to bring to book, everyone involved in this monumental scam that will surely continue to attract curses on the life of the perpetrators.

Beyond giving our support for the ongoing investigations, we are hereby using this medium to issue a 7day ultimatum to the EFCC to immediately arrest and commence the prosecution of Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina based on the revelations so far and his continued desperation to cover up his attrocities just like his decision to sponsor some motor park touts to demonstrate support for him in Abuja today in the name of the NANS.

It is therefore our resolution to declare Mr. Maina persona non grata 100km near any Nigeria tertiary institution has the NANS  had mandated all Nigerian students to enforce this declaration.

we wish to dissociate the NANS from any statement or gathering where the criminal conduct of Abdulrasheed maina may have received any kind of support or endorsement”
