The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has maintained that the party does not believe in imposition or anything that is illegal.
Tukur, who stated this on Monday in Abuja at the inauguration of the interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, added that the umbrella was big enough to contain everybody in Nigeria and in Diaspora.
He explained that the report of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which faulted the party’s convention held last year, led to the emergence of the present members of NWC.
His words: “INEC noticed that there was defects in election that was done. The circumstances of course led to the emergence of the present members of NWC.
“Our party believes in equity and justice; our party does not believe in imposition or anything that is illegal. Our party belongs to all of us here -everybody. So, l will like to thank you for being present here to witness another stage of PDP way of running its affairs according to the conscience of the collective mandate.
“So, there was no vacuum. All I want to assure here is that PDP is working; PDP is waxing strong; PDP is one family in terms of its administration.
What we have done is to regulate and to regularize what is being observed by INEC.”
Tukur expressed appreciation to NWC members that resigned, saying, “we are appreciate them and we hope that they would continue supporting our party to follow the party of trust and justice so that we will move our country and really fulfilled the mandate of the people who gave us the mandate too.
“Our people have confidence in our party; confidence in our leadership. So make sure when you get out here also you continue to spread the sermon PDP. This umbrella is big enough to contain everybody in Nigeria and in Diaspora.”
Speaking on behalf of the interim members, the Ag. Deputy National Chairman, Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, said, “I am in did very please to speak on our behalf and to assure those present here that we have come to work closely with the Chairman and to give him the maximum support to enable the PDP to retain its position as the largest party in Africa.”
