Dares FG To Try SFG, Chief of State, Amaechi, Magu
The ex-Governor Makarfi-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker committee, on Friday condemned in strong terms, political prosecution of perceived political enemies, the latest of who is former Katisan State Governor, Ibrahim Shema by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government in the name of corruption trial.
The party in a statement by Prince Dayo Adeyeye, National Publicity Secretary, said it is now clear to everyone “that those under trial by the court on corruption charges are perceived enemies of President Muhammadu Buhari, his part, the APC or political enemies and rivals of some APC leaders in the country, period!”
That is why, the party noted, the spot light of the ruling part in the false corruption chase is now on ex-Governor Shema, “a political son of the late former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua who in a landslide victory, defeated General Buhari in the 2007 Presidential election to win the presidency on the platform of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
At that election, Shema defeated the candidate of Buhari’s then All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Katsina in 2007 and 2011, just as ex-Governor Shema’s sin is believed to include his decision to back former President Goodluck Jonathan against his kinsman at the election.
The trump-up charges, arrests and trials of Shema, the statement continued, “is part of the APC’s plan to intimidate, harass and blackmail opposition leaders around the country in order to silence them ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“…Shema unarguably remains one of the most performing governors of the PDP. He is known for his infrastructural development and implementation of people oriented policies and programmes that uplifted the lives of his people within the period of his administration.”
While not supporting corruption of any kind, no matter who is involved, the PDP said it is against selective persecution of PDP leaders and members by the APC Federal Government since inception.
The present government, it noted, has since its inception has shielded “all its members accused of corrupt practices even those with hard evidence linking them to various acts of stealing and defrauding of state funds. Double standard it is!”
Nigerians, the PDP said, are still awaiting the arrest and trial of the former Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transport, the Minister of Science and Technology, the current chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Chief of Staff to the President who are still battling with integrity issues due to several allegations of corruption leveled against them and more.
The statement also wondered what has happened to Jafaru Isah, the President’s political ally accused of collecting monies from the former security adviser, noting that none of those it has named is being prosecuted because they are members of the APC.
The PDP urged the Federal Government to rather use state resources to improve the nation’s economy and address the various security issues.
