Babatunde Osotimehin, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and former Minister of Health, is dead.
A statement signed by Dr. Babajide Osotimehin said the 68-year-old died on Sunday.
“With gratitude to the Almighty God for a life well-spent in service to Humanity, the Babatunde Osotimehin Family of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State of Nigeria, hereby announces the transition of our Father and Grandfather, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin OON, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Sunday, 4th June, 2017 at the age of 68 years,” it read.
Osotimehin was also a former Provost of the College of Medicine at the University of Ibadan and former head of National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) before he was appointed Minister of Health by former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
He was appointed the fourth Executive Director of UNFPA in November 2010 and was reappointed in August 2014.
