The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday condemned the communal clashes in Ile-Ife, Osun State that led to the loss of several lives, ordering the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris to promptly investigate and ensure the prosecution of the culprits.
While condoling with government and people of the State, particularly families of the victims, he prayed that the Almighty God will comfort them, while urging the different groups in the ancient town to live in harmony, remain calm and keep the peace while police investigation is in progress.
A statement by his spokesman, Laolu Akande quoted Osinbajo as assuring that perpetrators of the acts of violence will be identified and brought to book according to law.
Osinbajo also emphasised that resorting to acts of violence as a form of redressing grievances by any group of people anywhere in the country will not be condoned by the Federal Government.
Such unlawful pursuit of redress and despicable expression of grievances shall be firmly punished in line with extant laws, the statement added.
