The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest has denied insinuations that it was in an alliance with other political parties in the coming Ondo State governorship election, insisting that it would “field and back its own candidate.”
Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Kayode Babade made this known to journalists, saying the decision was one of many others taken at the party’s zonal executive council meeting held last Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
“PDP is well grounded enough in all the states of the federation to be able to contest any election and win, and Ondo State will not be an exemption,” he said.
“Therefore, our members and supporters in Ondo State should not be dissuaded by anyone claiming that the PDP will be supporting the candidate of another party,” he added.
On the crisis rocking certain state chapters of the party, Babade assured that all thorny issues would soon be resolved. “On Ekiti State, for instance, the national secretary of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola is inviting eight persons from each of the two contending groups for reconciliation and harmonisation of the state executive council very soon,” he said.
“On Oyo State, the national vice chairman, Chief Segun Oni will be meeting leaders of the party where all issues will be finally laid to rest.” Babade added that there would also be meetings with selected leaders of the party from Lagos and Osun States very soon
