Ogoni Youths Warn FG Over Condition Of East-West Road

From Paul Obiajunwo, Port Harcourt

Youths of Ogoni under aegis of Ogoni Generation Next Project (OGNP) have cautioned the Federal Government to stop risking the lives of their people with the deplorable condition of the East-West Road linking Akpajo-Eleme axis of Rivers State.

The group gave the warning yesterday in Gokana Local government Area while inspecting Federal Government projects within the Ogoni axis in Rivers State.

The group said the inspection tour to Federal Government projects in the area became necessary due to re-occurrence of accidents, robbery and kidnapping on the deplorable road placing the lives of road users in danger.

The leader of the group Mr. Kadilo Kabari, noted that OGNP are young Ogoni professionals working for the interest of Ogoni people who have decided to take the inspection tour to see things for themselves.

Mr. Kabari said: “There is no justification for the people of Ogoni to suffer in this magnitude especially their effort to enthronement of democracy  which was made possible  after  the execution of Ogoni prominent sons which is still fresh in the memory.

“It is no doubt  that our people are  suffering due to the poor condition of the East-West road  linking  the Ogoni  people.  Our people have suffered due to the bad condition of East-West road which has placed us in a great danger where prominent Ogoni men and women were been robbed, kidnapped and killed.

“We cannot continue to be a slave in our own land, we want the federal government to expedite the construction of the East West road and stop endangering the lives of Ogoni people,” he said.
