Northeast Governors Insists Elections Would Hold

The Governors of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, have assured despite the security challenges in the three states elections will hold in the zone.

The governors who said this after a security meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan In Abuja, said if elections could hold in troubled countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, then the Northeast shouldn’t be an exception.

While describing the meeting with President Jonathan as fruitful, Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam added that the Northeast governors requested for the deployment of more troops to the zone to effectively prosecute the counter-insurgency war in the area.

Boko Haram who have been waging a violent campaign against Nigeria since 2009 has recently stepped up their activities to include several suicide bombings in states across the north of the country.
