The former governor of Anambra state, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife has raised his voice against agitation for the creation of Biafra Republic saying ” Nigerians must sustain the permanence of one Nigeria”
Dr. Ezeife particularly charged politicians in the country to think big and make the country rather than using religion, tribal and other divisive elements to disintegrate the country.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday at the annual lecture and awards night of Nigerian Pilot newspaper and Nigerian Newsworld magazine, the former governor described as laziness, for Nigerians, to quarrel over issues they did not design such as religion and their tribe.
He also cautioned Nigerians against fighting over religion and ethnic matters noting that it was divine arrangement that Nigeria should develop into a super power nation that the whole of Africa will look up to.
His words: ” The manifest promise of God for Nigeria is to develop into a super power and raise the dignity of the black race and wipe away the shame from the faces of all blacks.
We cannot achieve it with tribalism and religion differences but direction of massive economic development. So unity should bind us together. It is sheer laziness to quarrel on issues we did not design. We should focus and develop Nigeria. We have to be big to achieve greatness. We should not allow disintegration but sustain the permanence of one Nigeria”
He also blamed past and present leaders in the country who according to him have rule the nation in such a way that Nigerians are no longer proud of their country.
“We are not proud of our country, those of us who have led this country have not done enough to make Nigerians proud of this country, look at this country, u will not doubt god purpose for this county. This country is designed by god for unmatched greatness.
I used to blame military then, they used religion and tribe and other sentiments to make Nigerians belief that the country is not worth dying for. But the manifest promise of God for Nigeria is to become a super power country.” He said
