Emeka Inyama, Chairman, Media Committee, Nigeria Football Association (NFA), says the board was impressed with the sterling performance of the Super Eagles in the clash against Bosnia Herzegovina.
Inyama said on Monday in Sao Paulo, Brazil that as a result of the good outing the NFA had since released match-win bonuses of the team.
“The team deserved all the accolades from well-meaning Nigerians over the impressive outing so far,’’ Inyama said.
THe 29th minute strike by the team’s returnee, Osaze Odemnwingie, gave them the needed win that had brightened their chances of progressing to the round of 16.
Odemnwingie had scored off a pass laid on by Emmanuel Emenike.
The chairman said the association ensured prompt meeting of their obligations so as to motivate the team to go all out to seek the round of 16 ticket.
He said they had urged the players to approach the last group match with the seriousness it deserved.
“We believe that now the team has risen to the occasion and performed creditably, they should continue and make it into the round of 16.
“The Argentines are beatable; we have beaten them once at the Olympic Games — the 1996 Games in Atlanta.
“That the Iranians were able to hold down the Argentines until past the regulation time and only to score in added time is enough motivation for the Super Eagles,’’ Inyama said.
Nigeria meets Argentina in Porto Alegro in the last group F game on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Ben Alaiya, Media Officer of Super Eagles, has confirmed that spirit was now high in their camp, adding that “they have all received their bonuses.
“The boys are optimistic and plan to put in their best now that the situation is looking good to reach the round of 16’’.
