N1 Million Cash Prize, Other Laurels For Grabs At 10th Ajanah Inter-Local Govt Basketball Competition In Kogi

Lokoja At leasta total of N1 million cash and laurels are up for a grab during the 10th Ajanah inter Local government Annual Basketball tournament holding in Okene in Kogi State. The annual Ajanah Inter-Local Government Basketball championship in Kogi is out to promote unity, peace, scholarship and industry among youths in the country. The Tournament Coordinator and secretary of the Organising committee,Mr Ajibarede Bello, disclosed this at a press briefing as part of activities for the kick-off of the 10th Edition of the tournament on Monday in Lokoja.  Bello said the tournament, sponsored by the Chief Judge of Kogi, Justice Nasir Ajanah, had grown to become one of the major tournaments sponsored by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).  The tournament Coordinator said it had attracted youths from all over the country in a show of love and solidarity with youths in Kogi.  He said that the objectives of the championships include unity and peaceful co-existence of youths, development of basketball in the state and Nigeria as well as identification and exposure of talents.  Others are general development of sports facilities, positive engagement of youths to take their minds off social vices, encouraging pursuit of scholastic endeavours (pursuit of education) and development of Basketball.  Also speaking at the press briefing which featured unveiling of the championship trophy was Olumide Oyedeji, former captain of D’Tigers and member of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) and Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA).  He said the championship was scheduled for 27th to 30th December at two venues in Okene adding that prize money of N1 million and awards would be doled out to outstanding teams and players.  Oyedeji said prizes and trophies would be presented to 3-point shooting champion, Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the tournaments best five.  He said that there would also be Fair-Play trophy, Most-improved Team, Best rebounder, highest scorer trophies adding that each team would go home with a quality ball in addition to the game apparels would be for keeps.
