The mult-national wireless communication provider, MTN Nigeria, has encouraged Nigeria secondary school to take Information and Communication Technology seriously, especially now that the world is a global village.
The company made this statement yesterday while donating an e-Library to Model County Grammar School in Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Presenting the ICT equipment to the school, the General Manager Eastern Region Operations, Mr Obinna Nweje, said the equipment will make the students to master the usage and important of ICT.
He said most schools in the country do not have the privilege of computers, adding that the Principal of the school must ensure the students make good use of the facilities.
Nweje also acknowledged that the donation is one of the company’s ways of giving back to the society, and part of its corporate social responsibility.
He regretted that many students in Nigeria secondary school have never had the opportunity to practical learning of computer due to lack availability of equipments.
“Now that we live in a digital age where computer and communication knowledge is basically very essential, we want the Model County Grammar School pupils to participate productively and to become the best in the society. ”
“It is pitiable that most secondary schools in the country does not have these facilities and it have been a disadvantage to some students especially those whose parents are not well to do.
Responding, the Principal Model County Grammar School, (UBE) Mr. Ejie Francis Chinedu, appreciated the MTN team for the generosity.
The Principal promised MTN team that the e-Library will be used effectively by the students and the teachers for research and other academic purposes.
