The Rivers State Ministry of Finance has refuted allegations of the illegal deductions from salaries of workers in the State Civil Service.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Finance Dr. Chamberlain Peterside, said in Port Harcourt on Thursday while briefing the press on the said rumour that the government has since stopped all deductions except for the new contributory pensions.

“Government had discovered that some Civil Servants in the State were on special salary scales that are not only illegitimate but criminal,” he said.

“To correct this, a committee was setup in the office of the Head of Service to uncover these discrepancies and the payroll office of Ministry of Finance had since rectified these anomalies,” he explained.

Dr. Peterside also assured the workers that the Ministry of Finance would continue to implement Government financial polices to ensure maximum productivity and positive impact on the lives of our citizens.

He noted that since the introduction of the computerised payroll system in the State, all Civil Servants were now entitled to receive their monthly pay slips and could refer to their pay slips for any clarification.
