At Last, Jammeh Boards Conakry Bound Plane

fter weeks of stand-off and several hours of intense pressure from the international community, particularly leaders of neighbouring Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), there are indications that Yahya Jammeh has left the capital Banjul.

A tweet by a BBC reporter, Thomas Fessy (@BBCfessy) last night reported that “#Jammeh just boarded plane with his wife and #Guinea president – flying to #Conakry, it seems.”

President Adama Barrow, confirmed the development some minutes later, when he tweeted on his personal handle: “I would like to inform you that the second President of the Republic of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh has left Gambia. #Gambia.”
