Kogi Vows to Key into FG Policies on Agriculture to Empower Youths, Food Production

Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment  to key into the Federal Government Policies on Agriculture to empower youths and boost food production in the State.
The State Governor,Alhaji Yahaya Bello who disclosed this while speaking at the official commissioning of Bank of Agriculture in Okene,Okene Local Government Area of the State, stated that the present administration will use Agriculture to diversify the State economy.
The Governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Honourable Kehinde Oloruntoba said the State government was planning to recruit over 1000 youths to work in various designated areas for Agricultural purposes.
The State government also proposes a trading Zone, using Osara area where people from various people from different parts of the country would do buying and selling instead of travelling far distance.
Bello pointed out the State government will partner with the Bank of Agriculture, urging the Management to to involve the Ministry of Agriculture in the area of disbursement so the money will go to the right hands.
He added that this will enable the Bank to retrieve the loans given to the real farmers in the State.
The Managing Director of Bank of Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Kabiru Adamu disclosed that the establishment of Bank in Okene is very imperative, noting that the Bank would help the Local farmers in no small measures to boost agriculture and food production.
Adamu who was represented by a director of the Bank, Mr. Emmanuel Amen stated the Bank started operation in Nigeria in 1972.
He pointed out that Bank of Agriculture have been in Agriculture financing in the last 45 years, noting that that the Bank was in existence in Okene in the past.
He noted that Bank had disbursed about. N1.2 billion to customers in the area, noted that the repayment was not encouraging.
The Managing Director said that out of N1.2 billion only N300 million was paid leaving the huge balance of N94 million yet on paid, called on the customers to repay their outstanding debit. 
He commended the efforts of the Administrator of Okene Local Government Area,Honourable Mohammed Abdilrazaq for his effort in reopening the Bank of Agriculture Okene branch,stressing that Kogi State has joined the league of states with highest number of branches. 
The administrator of Okene Local government,Honourable Mohammed who expressed gratitude to the management for listening to his plea to reopen the branch. 
Mohammed stated that when he come on board as the Administrator of Okene Local.government Area, his intention to touch the lives of the people.
He added that both farmers and market women will benefit from the commissioning of the Bank of Agriculture in Okene
