Jonathan meets ‎PDP governors, NWC members over Adamawa crisis

Akinwale Gang,  Abuja

There appears to be solution in sight to the crisis rocking the Adamawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has pitched the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur against 10 members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday summoned a meeting of all the PDP governors, NWC members and Chairman of the party for the resolution of the crisis, but however, the meeting was still on as at the time of going to press.
This was as documents from the party national secretariat justified that PDP approved the time table for the congresses in Adamawa state.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, 10 members of the NWC dumped Tukur, reversing their decisions on the Adamawa crises, even without briefing him of the decision.

Reacting to the decision of the 10 members of the NWC, Tukur said “this is just a case of betrayal of trust. The documentation and correspondences in this matter will justify that the congresses in Adamawa state was approved by the NWC.”
Tukur who insists on fighting back has leaked some documents purportedly emanating from the national secretariat of the party, justifying that the party approved the time table for the now nullified congresses in the state.
According to the December 5 2012 letter with reference number, PDP/DOM/Gf/1/276, titled, “notification of party congresses in Adamawa state,” said, “In keeping with the provisions of section 87 of the Electoral Act 2010, we write to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the National Working Committee of our great party has approved the conduct of the following congresses in Adamawa state, sequel to the upcoming party congresses in the state.
“Ward congresses, December 27 2012, LGA congresses January 2013 and State Congresses January 8 2013,” the letter from Tukur and Oyinlola to the INEC chairman said.
In another letter dated December 6 2012, the National Organising Secretary, Abubakar Mustapha wrote to the PDP Chairman to approve the dates of congresses as earlier forwarded to INEC.
The letter that was copied to the Chairman of PDP Adamawa state chapter, Ambassador Umar Damagum, further said, “In adherence to the stipulations of section 85 of the electoral act 2010, INEC has accordingly been notified of these congresses.”
