President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has sent a message of congratulation to Francois Hollande, who was last night declared winner of the Sunday’s French Presidential run-off.
President Jonathan in a statement this afternoon signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, also saluted the people of France on the success of the elections, which he described as not only a triumph of democracy, but also a clear testimony to the maturity and age-long tradition of democracy in France.
“President Jonathan looks forward to working with Mr. Hollande, and his incoming government to further strengthen the cordial and mutually-beneficial relations between Nigeria and France,” the statement quoted Jonathan as saying.
“The President expects that under Mr. Hollande’s leadership, France will remain a strong supporter of global action to promote democracy, good governance and rapid socio-economic development in Africa.” the statement added
While wishing Hollande a successful tenure, Jonathan assured him that Nigeria would continue work with France in the quest for peace, political stability and prosperity not only in West Africa but the whole of the continent.
