Despite battling with the credibility question, Governor Jonah Jang’s faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) said it has been able to resolve the disagreement between the governors and the Federal Government over the sharing quotient of revenues from the federation account and excess crude fund.
Making the claim in a statement on Monday in Abuja, the Director General of the NGF, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, said that the immediate release of all outstanding revenues accrued to the states from the federation and excess crude accounts by the federal government was due to the none combative approach of Jang
Jang said that the issue created a big gap between these tiers of government, as this was no doubt a worrisome situation that needed to be handled with tact and diplomacy, in order to achieve an amicable resolution of the issues.
Onaiwu boasted that the tact and diplomacy deployed by the Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the forum was instrumental to resolving the contentious issues, which he said created a big gap between both tiers of government.
The Federal Government recently released the funds to the state after a meeting with the Jang led forum.
“The committee resolved some of the issues which led to the immediate release of all outstanding revenues accrued to the States from the federation and excess crude accounts. And the monies have since been released to all the States including arrears,” he said.
It should, however, be noted that dispute over the releases of the funds had hitherto lingered at the Supreme Court.
But Onaiwu said that Jang made a very profound and non-combative presentation on behalf of all the governors present during their meeting with the President.
“Consequently, the forum resolved and set up a committee of its members to engage the federal government on the FAAC issues with a mandate to represent the Governors Forum and to critically examine every point of contestation between the governors and the Presidency without acrimony and recommend a way to approach the President and tackle the problem amicably.
“As you can see, from the context of putting records straight, the above singular accomplishment of the Nigeria Governors Forum under the leadership of Governor David Jang is an eloquent reference point to the original aims and objectives of the Nigeria Governors Forum; which is to foster improved relationship and partnership with the federal government, for the common good of members, and by extension the people of Nigeria,” the DG said.
