Angered by the killing of a pregnant woman by a reckless truck driver, the youths of Igwurita community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have threatened to manhandle any truck driver with high speed on their road.
The accident which took place at Igwuruta junction claimed the life of a pregnant woman on top of a motorcycle popularly called okada and grinded her head into pieces.
The youths yesterday during their protest at the community vowed to place zero tolerant on reckless truck drivers plying their road.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, Price Onyekachi Ike, said: “We are not happy over the accident that consumed the life of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby, this is not the first time reckless truck drivers have been doing this to us and we have come to take the last decision on this issue.
“We have decided that any truck driver with high speed on our road must surely see the other side of us, we are the youths of this community and will not allow anybody or group to step on our toes.”
The youths also called on Rivers State Commissioner of Police to caution the truck drivers on their reckless driving attitude in the area before they will be barred from plying the road.
When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Ben Ogwuegbulam, confirmed the incident that the suspect has been arrested and also pleaded for more time to contact the Divisional Police Officer of the Igwuruta for more details.
