The Joint Action Coalition of Civil Societies in Nigeria on Tuesday called on the Acting Chairman of the Economy and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu to come out clear and tell Nigerians his decision over the in-house corruption within the Commission as Nigerians are not ready to condone any act of corruption in the Nigeria.
National Co-coordinator of the coalition, Comrade Ikpa Isaac in a press conference in Abuja tasked Magu to explain to Nigerians why under his watch there are corrupt officers in the Commission at a time the nation is waging war against corruption.
The group lauded the President Buhari whose leadership style has brought hope for the hopeless and urged him to act fast on this report as the anti -corruption war may be bastardized by the actions of the corrupt officials within the anti -graft agencies.
His words: “We are witnessing high profile prosecution of our treasury looters while many think that our nation can never come out of corruption. In observing this war, our attention has been drawn towards the in house corruption orchestrated by some staff of the anti-graft agencies especially the EFCC which must be tackled if the war must succeed”
“For example, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD), Director General, Mrs. Nellie Mayshak was sacked over stealing of N50 million on monthly bases for her period in office”
“The EFCC desk officer posted to PTAD Mr. Habibu Aliyu was also petitioned by the staff of PTAD for collecting N5million monthly to cover up the mess for the period between 2010 till she was sacked”
“Our worries now is that, the same Habibu Aliyu is the Chief Investigator of the same corruption while he has been part of the same personality where under his watch as the Desk Officer PTAD he was not been able to properly investigate”, he said.
