A group known as Coalition of Northern Professionals, (CNP) yesterday rejected the call for the recognition of the Vice President, Namadi Sambo over insurgency in the north.
The group said agitators of Sambo’s resignation should rather commend him for working tirelessly with President Goodluck Jonathan to transform Nigeria.
The Chairman of the group, Ahmed Mohammed, said in a statement that the attack on Vice President Sambo by a group Democracy Dividends Development Initiatives(DDDI) was unwarranted.
The group explained that Sambo has been in the forefront trying to unite the North stressing that the apex northern group Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF) had at different occasions accorded the work of vice president Sambo for implementation of peace, unity and development roadmap of the region.
The statement read in part “The Coalition of Northern Professionals, a Non-Governmental Organizations, and Nonprofit making Body view the recent attack on the person of the Vice president Mohammed Namadi Sambo by the group Democracy Dividends Development Initiatives, as unwarranted and uncalled for”
The group noted that “However for avoidance of doubt, CNP wish to state categorically that for those that did not know Barrister Suleiman Ahmed Akasawua or his antecedents, he was an ally of the Vice President when he was Governor of Kaduna state.
“The VP as someone who believes in empowerment of the people, wanted to make Akasawua a commissioner but his constituents stoutly opposed the move because he did not connect with them” the group said.
The statement added “CNP knows that AKasawua the arrow head of the attack on the person of the VP is Political jobber looking for relevance. They are also people bent on tarnishing the image of the VP ahead of the next elections and people like Akasawua has become willing tools, very sad indeed.”
