The Director and Chief Executive Officer of National Mathematical Centre, Professor Adewale Solarin has pleaded with Federal Government to include the center among the beneficiaries of interventions from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund).
He made the plea on Monday while receiving the Minister of Education Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai who was at the centre on a familiarisation visit.
Tetfund, it would be recalled was last year renamed after an ammendment to its Act by the National Assembly to cater only for tertiary institutions. But Professor Solarin who noted that the Center, which has enjoyed interventions in the past would only be able to deliver on its mandates effectively if included in the Tetfund interventions.
Responding, the minister, however, noted that the request about inclusion of the centre among the Tetfund beneficiaries is an administrative issue. She argued that Monotechnics as well as secondary schools are also in the category of the centre adding that there is a need for a round table discussion on it.
The Minister stressed that those institutions and the National Mathematical Centre are for now out of what the Act of Tetfund caters for.
Parts of the projects commissioned by the Minister at the centre during the visit were those sponsored by the then Education Trust Fund (ETF).
She remarked that the centre has lived up to its mandates noting that it is one centre that the nation looks up to in the rejuvenation of Mathematics in all levels of education.
