Immigration Officers Warned Against Shielding Illegal Immigrants
Paul Obiajunwo, Port Harcourt

The Comptroller of Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service, A.B Yerima has warned   officers of the Command  against aiding foreigners that does not have valid documents from entering the country.

He charged them   to avoid any act that will undermine the operational code of conduct of the Nigerian Immigration Service.

Yerima who spoke yesterday with Journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital on the sideline of recent   workshop organized  for men and officers of the Command  said it is very important to educate its men  on the immigration act as not to undermine their integrity in the discharge of their duties.

He said the workshop is a fall out of a national workshop organized for senior officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service by the Comptroller-General of Immigration in Abuja  over its act saying that the workshop is aimed at exposing officers on the operational guideline.

He said the workshop will acquaint them with the immigration act in line with international best practices.

Yerima said: “The training workshop  held recently for my  officers is a fallout of the national training in Abuja about immigration act. It’s on penalties for any default guiding the immigration act. My advice to my officers is that they should go ahead to read about the immigration acts as to enable them  carry out their duties  in line with international best practices.
