Tide turned in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the floor of Senate on Tuesday morning as the immediate past Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has been re-elected.
Ekweremadu, Senator representing Enugu state and a PDP Senator defeated Senator Ali Ndume of APC representing Borno state.
Upon inauguration of the 8th Senate by the Clerk of the Assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki, (APC Kwara Central) was duly elected unopposed by 57 Senators who were present at the plenary.
The PDP had after a marathon meeting on Monday evening adopted the APC’s duo of Bukola Saraki for Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The APC leadership after mock primaries last Saturday had announced Ahmed Lawan as its choice for the position of Senate President.
Also, the ruling party’s National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, at a press briefing on Monday, warned all legislators to abide by the party’s directive.
