A spectator was killed at a football viewing centre on Wednesday night in Potiskum town of Yobe.
Alhaji Sanusi Rufai, Yobe Commissioner of Police, who confirmed the incident on Thursday also said six others were wounded during the attack as the spectators watched Wednesday’s round of Quarter Final matches in the ongoing UEFA Champion’s League.
Nigeria’s North-East region has been under siege as Islamist terrorists, Boko Haram, mount an insurgency involding deadly attacks against schools, churches and sometimes relaxation spots.
The police boss said the unidentified gunmen invaded the centre during the match between Manchester Utd and Bayern Munich and started shooting and that security men had been mobilised to search for the attackers.
He confirmed that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the General Hospital, Potiskum, while those injured were receiving treatment at the hospital.
