Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said the New Vision Agenda of his administration is tailored towards achieving the components of sustainable Development Goals in the State.
Governor Wike gave the indication during the flag-off of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Awareness Campaign in Port Harcourt.
The Governor who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, said the State Government hinge its mission on actualizing the aspirations of Rivers people for a balanced development and an enhanced quality of life for the present and future generation through responsive governance guided by the fear of God.
“Our Vision is to build a State that is truly united, secure and prosperous with boundless opportunities for everyone who lives in it to peacefully pursue their goals and realize their full potentials in dignity.” He said.
According to him, in accordance with the tenets of sustainable development Goals, the State Government started by appointing a commissioner for Agriculture to demonstrate its priority to the sector and ensure food security, stimulate Agro-allied business and create jobs for the people.
He emphasized the determination of the present administration to construct, reconstruct and dualise roads to drive the process of socio-economic development in the State, adding that already, several dilapidated roads have been rehabilitated in Port Harcourt city and its envisions.
The State Executive reiterated the commitment of his administration to gender parity in line with the 35 percent affirmative action, stressing that the first appointment on assumption of office was that of a female Chief Judge and President Customary Court of Appeal as well as the State producing the first female Deputy Governor in the South-South region.
Chief Wike thanked the Organisers for the choice of Rivers State for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Awareness Campaign and assured that the State would continue to work towards affecting life of everyone living in Rivers State.
The Acting Director Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) Mr. Godwin Poi said his Agency identifies with the objective of the Organization in building human capacity pointing out that about 700 Rivers Youths are studying abroad on Government Scholarship to boost the manpower of the state.
Earlier, Director, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Awareness Campaign Group, Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke, lauded Governor Wike for his developmental strides in the State.
Dr. Nkweke noted that the theme of the awareness campaign: “leaving no one behind” is significant because it is only through cooperation that peace and development would be achieved.
High point of the event was the presentation of Award to the State Governor Chief Nyesom Wike for restoring peace to the State and High Chief Raymond Dokpesi as International Ambassador.
