Former Cult Leader Denies Link In Murder Of Ex-CDC Chairman

From Paul Obiajunwo, Port Harcourt

A former cult leader, High Chief Igwedibia Ejima Johnson, popularly known as General Don Waney, has debunked the allegation that his boys were responsible for the recent killings in Ogba/Egbema Ndoni Local Government area (ONELGA) Rivers State.

General Don Waney  who is now the traditional ruler of Aligwu Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area particularly after the amnesty offered to him by the state government said he has nothing to do with  the assassination of former chairman of Omoku Community Development Committee (CDC),  Azubuike Toby and his son.

He  made the denial at the weekend in Omoku,  the headquarters of ONELGA,  stressing that  since he and his boys embraced the state amnesty, they had not gone back to the creeks.

General Don Waney,  who was the former leader of Aggrieved Orashi Youths, and recently conferred with the title of Eze Oyirimba 1 of Ogbaland,  described himself as a man of peace, pointing out that those linking him to killings in the area particularly the murder of Toby and his son, were  enemies of his progress.

He commended security operatives Joint Task Force (JTF) for the recent raid on the criminal hideouts and killing of suspected cultists terrorizing the areas,  urging them to sustain the onslaught.

He said: “So days ago,  I heard that the former Chairman of Omoku CDC and his son,  as we as another boy were killed.  I felt very bad about this.  This is because,  I have been saying in the media that we need peace in ONELGA. I cannot get myself involved in that.

” I am a peaceful man.  As a traditional ruler,  I cannot support anybody or groups to take laws into their hands,  especially in my zone. I am a peaceful man; I cannot do such things.  I am against the killings.

“They (ONELGA) know the people causing the problem in ONELGA.  However,  the surviving son of the late former CDC chairman identified one of the killers of his father. I have been praying for ONELGA to have peace.  Two wrongs cannot make a right”,  the traditional ruler noted.

He thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for offering the State Amnesty programme to armed youths and his efforts in ensuring that ONELGA and other parts of the State experienced peace.

Meanwhile,  elder brother of the deceased,  Ikechukwu Wokocha,   has exonerated the traditional ruler from the murder of his younger brother,  who was assassinated alongside his first son by unknown gunmen in the area,  pointing out that  their family had identified one of the suspected killers identified as Jungle Boy.

Wokocha called on Federal and State governments to unravel the persons behind the assassination of his younger brother and the purpose behind such heinous act.

“I am calling on government at all levels to look into the crisis in ONELGA and restore peace.  I am stating that Azubuike Toby was my younger brother and nobody should link Don Waney to his death.  His surviving son identified one of the killers,  who is known as Jungle Boy”.
